Podcasts are exploding in popularity, with over 144M US listeners and 62M tuning in every week. While podcasting is relatively new, most of the platforms that they’re streamed on are not new: they were actually built to stream music and then adapted to also stream podcasts.
While there are some advantages to this system, it can also lead to frustrations. For example, have you ever tried to search for content on one of these platforms?
Super frustrating.
Easy enough to find shows like “Dr. Death” and “Joe Rogan” but those are more like music albums. Their model is to use their algorithms to wade through a ton of content to offer up suggestions and then rely on you to skip the stuff you don’t want to hear
Shouldn’t we get the content we want, even from multiple sources, dropped into our feed? And shouldn’t it be easier to find the content we want to listen to?
There has to be a better way.
THE CONVEY CONTENT LIBRARY
We created ConveyMED to be an educational podcast platform where listeners can more easily find content that matches their interest, can engage with images that enhance the experience, and can conveniently earn CME credit.
We accomplish this by organizing the content to make it easier for the listener to choose episodes that meet their specific needs such as:
CONTENT CATEGORIES
Free Episodes: An association should plan on releasing a steady cadence of free content to their members. New and timely free content will bring listeners to your channel on a regular basis and serve as a gateway to your other content.
CME Content: As physicians make your free podcasts a regular habit, they will be more likely to select your channel to satisfy some portion of their annual CME obligation. On the ConveyMED platform, we make it easy for physicians to purchase and listen to content, confirm competency and completion, and allow associations to compliantly issue CME credits. Busy physicians will find the convenience and accessibility of podcast CME very attractive, especially since content comes from their own association peers.
LISTENER PROFILE
Resident/Fellow Content: With ConveyMED, you can now create and organize a library of content specific to residents and fellows. Because of the average age of this demographic as well as the demands on their time, residents and fellows will be frequent listeners of podcasts, especially if it is tailored to their needs. For example, content designed to prepare them for board exams will be frequently accessed. Connecting that content to your other digital assets such as videos or webinars, through episode links and downloadable files will enrich the learner’s experience.
NP/PA/Allied Health: On ConveyMED, you can now organize and deliver content specifically for clinical partners such as nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists etc. This often ignored group also has to maintain annual certification and you can now provide peer-reviewed caliber content to meet the specific needs of these important partners.
SUBJECT MATTER
Practice Management: Physicians are trained to take care of patients and often are not exposed to important practice management issues such as coding, reimbursement, legal and financial aspects of practice, partner and hospital relationships, alternative sites of care and many more topics. On ConveyMD, we can set aside a category just for this content to make it easy for your listeners to find.
New Technology Spotlights: Your industry sponsors are an important stakeholder in your success as an organization. With ConveyMED, you can offer them the opportunity to create industry sponsored content so that they can reach their target audience with their scientific story. In the same way that many associations offer industry sponsored symposiums (non CME) at their live events, you can offer sponsors the opportunity to create a podcast version of these symposiums and release them under your channel. With proper guidelines in place, these episodes can provide highly scientific content and provide a nice supplement to association generated content.
IMAGES SUPPORT THE AUDIO EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
In addition to the way content is organized on ConveyMED, our content partners can now expand the traditional podcast formats and supplement the learning with downloadable images. For example, if the podcast format is a 1-1 interview with the author of a research article, you can include key images such as charts, tables, and graphs that illustrate the key data points of the research paper.
For case study discussions, a popular form of physician education, the content creator can show a series of images such as X-ray, MRI, CT, or other modalities to enhance the narrative of the case presentation.
Although not essential to the success of an educational podcast, images enhance the learning experience and expand the creator’s options for content development.
CONNECT LISTENERS TO YOUR DIGITAL LIBRARY
Lastly, when viewed as an important asset in your digital library, association leaders can use their ConveyMED podcast channel as a gateway to connect their content to the rest of their on-demand offerings. For example, imagine a physician listens to a podcast on a particular subject, directly links from the ConveyMED app to the association website to view a video on the subject, and then signs up for an interactive webinar scheduled later in the month. This strategy will yield both excellent learner competency as well as a deeper association engagement as they’ve interacted with your content in multiple ways and on multiple occasions.
